The problem? The Federal Government didn’t have the resources on hand - all those taxes had been spent, because the system is run by “special interests” - the oil industries, the military-industrial-complex, foreign states like Israel, large corporations of all kinds. The money is all going to fighting imaginary (and profitable) threats in Afghanistan and the like- not to real domestic American needs, like repairing the levies in New Orleans, contingency plans for real threats, like oil spills, or basic infrastructure maintainence of any kind.
If you look at any country you’d actually like to live in, they have a government which deals with issues that affect everyone, like maintaining essential infrastructure and planning for potential disasters.
If you look at any craphole third-world cesspit, they have a government which taxes as much as the first kind of government, but spends on the military, internal repression, and enriching well-connected cronies.
We’re getting the latter because we’re losing all control of our own government.

Furthermore, if there is a more efficient use of Yellowstone then we would all be better off in the long run. Society (your favorite word) suffers when scarce resources are used inefficiently.
Either way, I can tell you that Yellowstone’s terrain is very rugged and unsuitable for development in the first place (it’s built on top of a super volcano for heaven’s sake). Private owners might build a lodge and visitors center so that everyone can enjoy some aspect of the park, but anyone that thinks a Yellowstone could be a major metropolitan city is either on crack or legally retarded (I think we established that your IQ, is in fact, smaller than the tip of a #2 pencil).
Disclaimer: I’m an avid backpacker, climber and biker. I’m an outdoor enthusiast. I love national parks, but I can tell you first hand they’d be better off in the hands of private owners.
don’t worry, government beauracrats can drop the number of wolves, coyote, cougars, elk, grizzlies, and native fish and even find time to support policies that result in 1.2 million acres of land scorched. all you have to do is write them a blank check and tell them to run the park well. in no time you’ll have a smoldering waste devoid of life.

Moreover, why wouldn’t special interests run government? I mean it pays to own the government does it not?
Benjamin suffers from the same brain disease all statists do. They think the state is like god; able to solve any and all problems if we just appeal to its will. Its like religious people who don’t understand rainbows, and say that god made the rainbow happen, that god makes the earth spin around the sun, god makes planes fly.
We already have much better explanations for all of that, and its just the religious/statist people trying to hide the fact that they don’t actually understand the way the world works by attacking those of us who really do get science/political philosophy.
Lets try from the top: The state is a group of men, like any other. Except they are the judge in their own case. In a monarchy, the king judges in his own case; in a democracy, the majority judges in its own case. Its the dumbest setup anyone’s ever come up with. The government has no incentive to promote justice, prosperity, environmentalism, whatever.
Even Benjamin says, “if only the state weren’t engaged in looting and stealing for special interests then maybe we could avert some disasters”. Sure. Why not. While we’re at it, lets ask serial killers to stop killing. Its a really practical thing to say and I’m sure its the best way to deal with the problem.

Vox populi, vox dei. We the People can solve any and all problems, if we appeal to our collective will and cooperate on a large scale. The market doesn’t facilitate cooperation, it facilitates competition.
