Republican Party Platform of 2008

The Republican Party Platform of 2008 contains this statement: “We do not support government bailouts of private institutions. Government interference in the markets exacerbates problems in the marketplace and causes the free market to take longer to correct itself.”

This is - to say the least - ironic.

Consider this: the takeover of Fannie and Freddie and the rest of the “bailouts” so far aren’t really bailouts of “private” organizations, but rather subsidiaries of the Federal Reserve.

Isn’t that a bit like saying that Boeing is a subsidiary of the United States Department of Defense? Or that Lenovo is a subsidiary of IBM?

Somewhat, but given all the sweetheart deals that especially Fannie, Freddie and probably “friendly” banks have gotten, I would consider that they’ve “sold out” or were “bought out” by the federal government.

Please note that this is all merely metaphorical and for the purposes of a thought experiment only.

For all intents and purposes, yes. Although I would argue that government is the servant and the various industrial, financial and medical complexes are the masters in the relationship.

STATE…Lick my hairy B****
