Reserve Currency and the Trade Deficit

Why does US Dollar’s status as the world’s reserve currency prevent the Trade Deficit from correcting itself?

Because the U.S. dollar is the reserve currency, foreign governments and investors want to buy U.S. treasury securities. In exchange for these treasury securities, they ship products to the U.S. Products are considered imports but treasury securities are not considered exports. The trade deficit is the difference between imports and exports.
