His response regarding pre-Fed downturns was sort of a mess. Anti-anti-Fedders love to bring up those downturns, so Dr Paul really ought to prepare himself with more solid and concise responses regarding them.
He sought-of got to it by mentioning inflation from wartime spending, but I agree. There’s definitely a concise way to show that the previous downturns were always about government monetizing the economy and generating inflation.

I didn’t think his explanation for the economic crisis’s before the fed was bad. An intelligent person could understand what he was saying, and that fractional reserve banking can happen without the fed.
It is clear that Ron Paul is one of two things:

Not a libertarian

A libertarian who is compromising his philosophy to gain political traction.
Doe he really believe that much of the problem with the federal bureaucracy is that it is simply unconstitutional and should be turned over to the States.
Why does he advocate for public schools at any level? State, local, etc… Does he really believe this or is he compromising his true belief that a free market should do everything?
Ugh, the first Twitter post was such stupidity, and worse was Ron Paul’s response to it.
I`d say it is because he is a congressman - an official on a federal, not a state level. It is not his job to go after the states. That would empower the feds as much as his going after them hurts them.
As a way of comparison imagine an EU level politician taking time off to blast the induvidual member states, what good could come from that? It would just set up others to argue that what is needed is more EU enforced standards.
