Russia, Georgia and America: The myth of the Democratic Peace

It seems to me that the war in Georgia is a perfect example highlighting the fallacy that Democracies will not go to war. I’ve never subscribed to the idea that Russia is an autocratic dictatorship, it is a democracy, its President is elected by the people just as the US Presidency is (and also Georgia). Yet these shared democracies provoked a war. The US wanted to expand its empire to the borders of Russia and Russia wanted to reclaim its empire back.

What is everyone elses opinion on this, is this a good example of the myth of the democratic peace?

Hell, it disposes the myth of Statist Peace altogether.

Technically, the election of Adolf Hitler and the subsequent bloodshed should have been evidence enough that democracy doesn’t stop, if not fan the flames of war.
