Santorum's economic plan better than paul's

Santorum said he would cut 5 trillion dollars from the federal budget within a 5 year time period. Would someone mind clarifying how this is possible if the federal budget isn’t even 4.5 trillion? Am I missing something here? Perhaps the budget is predicted to clock over to north of 5 trillion because of entitlement obligations?

He would cut money each year so that over 5 years the total number of cuts would be 5 trillion.

…also means everything would be “scheduled” in later years when it wouldn’t have to be done (as a current Congress cannot be beholded to the mandates of a past one.) This is why Paul always says the only year that matters is this one…the only budget that matters is the current one.

And also don’t forget this “cutting over x years” technically doesn’t mean the budget has to be that much closer to being balanced. He could easily increase the budget by $10 trillion one year, and then cut $5 trillion the next…the budget is $5 trillion bigger, but he kept his promise to “cut $5 trillion.”

I understand. Other than the aforementioned proposal, the only notable thing he wants to do is cut the corporate tax on manufacturing. That doesn’t sound like a bad idea imo. What makes me completely opposed to santorum though, so much that I would vote obama over him, is his super hawkish mentality.
