Its tough as 85% of the budget is teacher salaries and benefits, and they just signed a 2 year contract with a 6.2% pay increase per year.
Any other ideas/discussion for cuts?

Sports? Perhaps you could find an outside funding source for your sports team. The publicity of helping a sports team stay alive may be more than worth the cost for some local businesses.
Wow, that is absolutely sick. A union in the public sector is the most ass backwards thing I have ever seen.
And something like 36% of government employees are unionized as opposed to something like 7% of private sector employees. I know here in the U.S. there is some law on the books that encourages unionization of government employees.
