The President has entered an undeclared war on an oil-rich country in the Middle East. I hardly even heard about this until today. What are the liberal bloggers saying? Things like this:

What frustrates me is that many politicians claim that what Obama did was justified, yet when Bush did the same action, many of the same politicians that justify Obama’s war, called for the impeachment of Bush.
Even kucinich, who recognizes that what Obama did was wrong and claims that Obama’s action may be considered an impeachable act, is not doing crap about it. But whenever Bush did that same action, kucinich was one of the first to call for his impeachment…
but what can you expect… hypocritical politicians, how ironic is that?
We all knew that the leftists didn’t disapprove of the Iraq war because they disapprove of wars. Give me a break. They liked protesting and being sanctimonious and they hate Republicans. Wars are fine if a Democrat does it.
I am not surprised when politicians lie and waffle, what is bizarre is that people expect anything else from them. “No, THIS TIME they’re telling the truth. THIS GUY is different.” Such a fantasy world people live in sometimes.
Oh, sure, I know that. The Leftists are some of the most intolerant, holier-than-thou SOBs on the planet. But it’s hilarious, still. I bet they don’t even realise what a bunch of rationalizing fakes they are.
I haven’t read the democratic press on this but I would guess they would point to a lack of ground troop commitment as a difference in kind between the Libyan and Iraq/Afghan actions
I bet they would, which is funny because air raids are basically just mass murder and have very little military effect, especially with the inane bombing-from-space the military-industrial complex favors. It would have been a lot better, casualty and efficacy wise, if they HAD sent in the Marines and not just started slaughtering people from the stratosphere.
Obama was extremely reluctant to have anything to do with Libya. He was armtwisted by Clinton, Powers, and Rice (The Powerpuff Girls) into bombing Libya. Of course, Obama is a brutal butcher and did not wink at killing thousands of Pakistanis, but he did not want another war giving him a headache. It is merely that he is like the man throwing a party at the White House who gets locked out of his own home when the party gets too wild.
France made the first strikes. This is the French Iraq War, with Sarkozy taking Bush’s shoes. It is largely the French initiative at work, and the Americans are currently tag-alongs.
I bet Joe Biden will not call for impeachment precisely because he was the very first to call for attacking Iraq back in the Clinton days, the hypocrite.

Yeah, but no matter how obvious a statement like this is it is a task for Sisyphus to think it matters if you point it out. The spirit of “left of center” type culture is so ingrained in people’s heads, you may as well be speaking Greek to them rather than pointing out these obvious facts.
The constitution is basically a convenience that is referred to when it is the last thing that might shutdown an opponent’s policy. Namely when rational argument or poll numbers can’t shut it down.
Overall, I think both parties are past the fact that the constitution is worth anything. They know they want what they want. And when it is time to be radical and ‘stubborn’.
Most liberals will say following the constitution is no different than Christian fundamentalism. And may even come from Christian fundamentalism, since most conservatives are Christian and they hear them talk about the constitution. They like that the constitution is a social contract which locks people into servitude to the state forever more nananabooboo, but not all of the inconvenient limits on its powers. Which are against science and ‘common sense’. Science and common, mind you, that doesn’t apply to the state’s initial legitimacy. No, never must one question this.
And that Judge Napolitano guy tells the Fox News guys night after night about the constitution. It goes in one ear and out the other.
My understanding is that a lot of “policy wonks” (if not most of them) essentially take the position that the ends justify the means - when it comes to their ends, of course. On the other hand, there’s the perception that enforcement of a no-fly zone over Libya isn’t actually a war. If it is, however, then at least it was sanctified by the United Nations, which most liberals seem to believe (at least implicitly) has higher sovereignty than the United States or any other “mere nation-state”.
Any argument to give this situation a positive twist by any democrat falls flat on its face. Call them out for being the war-mongers that they are. Not only that, but why does everyone forget about the bombs that are falling on Pakistan? Is it because the Pakistani government is ok with the killing of its own people so ?
As cporter said, I don’t think it matters really. Bush and co put on a bigger show to justify what they’re doing, Obama didn’t even bother with that and goes straight to the bombing campaign. For the people who have to deal with the bombs falling on their heads, all they know is this is business as usual with the US killing whoever they want like ants.
Obama in 2007: “The president does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.”
Times change, I suppose. Polish that Nobel Peace Prize, Mr. President!
