I’m asking more about assets because I’m pretty sure regarding government liabilities most here would agree with repudiation…
If, in an extremely unlikely hypothetical, an ancap/libertarian President and Congress were democratically elected and legislated the end of taxation and aggression or, maybe just as unlikely, the government were to be overthrown too rapidly to sell off its assets and replaced by nothing, then how would the state’s physical assets be “distributed”?
Would homesteading be applied to this property? Would individuals be able to immediately move into National Parks and vacant government buildings on a first-come, first-serve basis? What about the military bases? Would pilots own their own planes and submarine captains their own subs? Who would own the (alleged) gold reserves the government now owns? The vault’s guards?
Or would there be a need for planned or democratic allocation of these assets?
Or rather, should they be auctioned off, and if so what should be done with the proceeds?
