Statist meme in the novel "Daemon"

p. 176:

“The systems all had the Warmonk, Inc, logo. It was a high-efficiency operation. It was free enterprise in action.”

Notice how this obviously intelligent and forward-looking author, Daniel Suarez, is completely unaware of the distinction between actual voluntary enterprise and state “enterprise” when it comes to the subject of state-subsidized “private” prisons. Who even knows if prisons would exist in their current form in the absence of the state?

Otherwise, I highly recommend this book to everyone.

Dude, relax. It’s pretty obvious this was meant as a joke. Warmonk is exactly as “free” an enterprise as Halliburton or CCA. Perhaps you are completely unaware of the the distinction between entertaining fiction and humorlous polemics?

I don’t recommend this book to anyone who is unable to recognize irony.
