I don’t even know what to say about this, it’s really just shocking that they actually teach this to children. It seems that they are preparing these kids for a Che style revolution, lol. What do you guys think of this?
Okay, so there was a book with an excerpt of some Marxist talking smack about capitalist america’s systematic attempt to wipe out native americans. I would love to read the rest of the book, as I’m sure that’s not what it was all about.

Hold on a second there. This is a complete logical failing on your part. It does not take capitalism to wipe out native americans. In other words, the capitalist part has nothing whatsoever to do with it.
No, most of what happened to native populations happened in the name of establishing and protecting private property. I would say capitalism had a lot to do with it. I’m not too up on the specifics of chicanos, but for most tribes, this is true.
EDIT: Informal fallacies are argumentative fallacies. They’re illogical in that respect. But only formal fallacies are, specifically logical fallacies. I would like more poeple on here to understand that before they throw out the word fallacy willy nilly.
Again, that isn’t due to capitalism per se. It’s largely a misunderstanding between two different cultures. A misunderstanding that was perpetuated by both sides no doubt. Insofar as the tribe’s property was not respected that is not due to capitalism either, but rather coercion. So, in fact, it really wasn’t capitalism, at least if you equate capitalism with private property which of course is not wholly accurate to begin with, but its antithesis.
Edit: By the way, I said “logical failing”, not fallacy, as I cannot think of what kind of particular fallacy you are employing by equating the destruction of Native American culture and lives with american capitalism, etc. However, I do know that it is fallacious.

This style, bringing up any form of sacred cow (capitalism, communism, whites, blacks, etc), of thought is hopeless and people will run around in circles arguing how good or bad people really were. Perhaps this is sad, particularly when one of their gods my have caused massive destruction, but it is true.
My advice: find other ways to manage your thoughts and passions.

But overall, I do disagree with Laotzu del Zinn. It was the enforcement of the State that destroyed the natives. It was their lack of respecting property rights that decreased the population.

If capitalism had a lot to do with it, then so did every other ideology and religion, because the eradiction of other groups of people has happened everywhere in the world under different systems throughout time, before civilization even started. I could just as easily argue that because the beliefs of Lao Tzu were around in China in the past, that is what lead to the disapearance of people with non Han DNA in large parts of what is now called modern day China, but that is also nonsense. Perhaps it is not capitalism to blame here, but the actual people who did the killing using whatever ideals used to justify their killing.

Bit ironic that the member of the school board was so upset that the lady was saying “bad words” while reading the material the school board was responsible for presenting to elementary school students. Shows just how incompetent most of these officials are.

Teaching bigotry towards any ethnicity or capitalism will only hold people back. Sounds like the writer of the text book had an axe to grind, but I don’t fault him or her for the school board choosing the book for their curriculum.
What makes this disgusting isn’t that it was taught in a public school it’s that it was apparently used with elementary kids. Must say that it doesn’t matter though. 90% of the kids who ever hear that will end up as either republicans or democrats anyway…
