Lot of talk about term limits…seems a good idea, to mitigate incumbent ‘power’ etc
However, the move from monarchy to democracy was also deemed good. In light of Hoppes book, wouldn’t term limits also force politicians to even parasite and destruct more at a faster pace since they only have 4-8 years (w.e the limit is)?
Whether term limits make things better or worse is really debatable, but if you ask me it’s a little redundant, as the best solution of all would be to remove the parasites entirely.
But generally I pick the “against” position on term limits: Having a guaranteed limited political career means you’re worried about what you’re going to do after you get out of politics, and not about keeping your political career. It’s much easier to push for things like subsidies for your pet corporations when you don’t have to worry about what the voters will think.
It would be another powerful tool to limit and control tyranny.
The us always talks about how great it is to have presidents for a limited possible service life of 8 years. Yet you have most congressmen and senators serving for more than 2 or 3 decades. Awesome.!!!

Many people on here might not like Senator Coburn as much as I do, but hopefully you guys can all respect that he upheld his campaign pledge and didn’t serve more than three consecutive terms, yet still got re-elected after a break.
Azure, Robert Byrd was all about pork & subsidies AND stayed in politics until death. His fattening up of WV played wonderfully into the voter’s mind. Of course, the rest of the states picked up the tab.

It’s a nice first step. We would need a great many more limits to actually accomplish anything. Yah, it would be nice if we could just toss all of government in the trash in one step, but that ain’t gonna happen.
Term limits are terrible. A term limited legislator has every incentive to steal as much as possible at the end of the term for their cronies. Then to make matters worse the political parties take the power over as they alone posess the machinery required to get elected. There is no magic policy that will make politicians behave better. Look at the last horrible term limited president Bush, the succeeding one is worse!!!
From Stefan Molyneux, added to by me. The problem is that the only sustainable govenrment is none at all. Or said differently government that governs best governs least, so one that does not exist would be optimal. Every system of government mankind has tried is failing or has failed:
Feudal System-Monarchy-Failed.
Theocracy. - Failed.
Autocracy. - Failed.
Limited Monarchy and Mixed Economy - Failed.
Minarchy and Mixed Economy - Failing/Failed only a couple of experiments one in the USA under Articles of Confederation Abandoned, one in Switzerland Abandoned, and one on last legs in Hong Kong. Maybe Luxembourg or Lichtenstein?
Republican Government Limited by Precedent and Mixed Economy - Failing.
Republican Government Limited by Constitution and Mixed Economy - Failing. This one is taking the second to the longest time to fail. The Feudal system lasted a lot longer.
Direct Democracy and Mixed Economy or Socialist Economy - Never tried as this one is guaranteed to fail as it is simply rule by a mob.
Republican Fascism - Private ownership of stuff with government control. - Failing.
Totalitarian Fascism-Failed.
Totalitarian Socialism-Failed.
Republican Socialism-Near Failed, it is failing faster/being abandoned faster than mixed republican govenrments.
Authoratarian/Totalitarian with Very Free Mixed Economy (Singapore)-Failing slower than Republican Mixed Economies but still failing.
What about anarcho-aristocratic tribalism?
