The crack-up boom is already underway

We are already in the early phases of the crack-up boom. The flight from currency has begun, as evidenced by gold prices and much of the general chatter around the Internet. If you start typing “when is the dollar going to collapse” into Google, it will come up as a frequently-entered search query. This means a significant number of people are searching precisely that question. More and more people are waking up. When this thing goes viral, it’s over.

Getcher gold, yer guns, yer dry food, and most important, yer whiskey. Enjoy the ride.

I’m thinking cap-and-trade and universal health care ought to send things over the edge. So far, Congress has pulled back from the brink. But there’s still just too much deficit spending and there’s just not going to be any way out when the Baby Boomers start cashing their social security checks.

I hope I can get my three sisters garden planted in time!

Yo! I had one of those this past year. Acorn squash, corn, and vine beans that went up the corn stalks.

How did it work out?

I don’t believe there will be a collapse with panicked mobs overrunning stores to stock up. It will be a long slide into decay. It started when the oil bubble busted in late 2008. Another important step is Germany stepping in to help Greece with 30 billion euro which is a middle term blunder of notable proportions. Yet another step will be a major country partially defaulting its debt. While all eyes are on Japan and its monster debt it may well be an European country (Iceland?) or Argentina again. This is inevitable, I see not a single government trying hard to reduce its deficit and even if they did what they are accumulating right now is enough to make default look like a sensible option. This may well tempt other countries into trying the trick themselves, especially if consequences are limited. Having 10-15% of your budget swallowed by debt servicing may make look those sanctions like a good thing. Then we have consumers prices. They are rising and rising fast: for example fuel prices in Europe are quickly rising in face of stagnating oil prices. All that mass of liquidity that was poured into the system in late 2008 is starting to trickle in. Investors know that, that’s why gold is racing. Mexican 50 pesos went over the 1000€ mark yesterday for the first time in history (yes! [:D]). Gold is screaming “Inflation!”. And that’s precisely what we are going to see.

PS: even if it’s as hard as Hell I am thinking about applying for a gun permit… [;)]

Don’t use corn, it’s a net loss if you can’t keep up with chemical fertilizers. My parents did that one year when I was a child and that part of the soil after harvest never was the same (grass didn’t grow back at all, was a dirt patch with no weeds either). Try other plants that can add nitrate into the soil. shrugs

The premise of the three sisters addresses that. Here is a link.

Nice, thanks.

Did good. This was the first year I had corn actually grow and the squash helped keep out weeds. I’ve tried corn in rows in the same spot and it was a no-go. But I think the beans helped provide the nourishment for the corn to actually grow this past year.

Sweet. I’ve never tried it myself, but have always been intrigued. Those clever aboriginals. There’s this book called Gaia’s Garden that has a bunch of really cool ideas to attempt to squeeze maximum production from minimal space and effort through planned ecologies like the three sister plant guild. A must for a sedentary survivalist!
