"The Disconnect Between Supply and Demand in Gold & Silver Markets"

http://seekingalpha.com/article/91357-the-disconnect-between-supply-and-demand-in-gold-silver-markets

So the premise of the article is that currently the gold and silver markets are being fooled with non-existing precious metal holdings, while actual demand can barely be met.

I’m not an expert on precious metals, but it seems there are many more or less credible stories floating around regarding the market. This article seems plausible and doesn’t venture into conspiracy-land too heavily. But being ignorant, I’d like to hear opinions on if this article is accurate and if this type of activity really has such a profound effect on the market.

Something odd in the article:

It’s been 45 years since the US mint used silver in coins.

Perhaps it refers to commemorative coins?
