they just found out about that now. i wonder how long that could have been going on without their knowledge.
Arguably, this was a big hit. Now, some company in said military-industrial complex will get a substantial amount of money to develop some “high-tech” software temporarily impervious to hacking.
Well this is good sign. It used to take 5 dollar box cutters to kill 3000 americans. Now they have to spend more than 5x that. I guess our military has gotten 500% more efficient?
I figure some form of encryption will be used, but that may indeed require some equipment/software modifications that will be pretty expensive.
I’m surprised this vulnerability wasn’t identified earlier in the program… wait, no I’m not.
We like to think there’s this super-evil military-industrial complex that has a master plan to take over the world, but in reality they’re just a bunch of confused and disorganized morons who take ten times the amount of time and money to produce what the free market takes for granted. Frankly, I’m surprised the stuff the U.S. has even operates. There is most definitely an invisible hand operating in the defense industry because the Government and Corporate leadership is clueless.
I am surprised that this even hit the news, because such vulnerabilities would surely be classified. Plus, if I’m the enemy I keep this information to myself. Got to wonder who knew what when, and the little games that followed once that knowledge was out.

It’s an odd piece of news. The idea that they don’t use encryption is hard to believe.
^maybe they make mistakes on purpose so they can be paid more to fix them.
If I were the only one who could fix problems, I would try to make more problems.

I remember that in during the 1982 Lebanon War, Hezballah guerillas were able to predict Israeli manuevers by looking at their UAVs. If there was a UAV in the area, they knew an attack was immediately pending. Of course, at the time UAVs were smaller and more visible (well, some still are today, but the Predator is fairly huge; I remember seeing one at the Miramar Air Base).
