Well, officers that belong/work to small communities tend to be better (or less bad).
It certainly is no worse an occupation than being a teacher for the state.
I try not to look at people in groups and would much rather look at them on an individual level. I certainly have met cops, teachers, soldiers, postal workers, city constuction workers, city council men, or if medicine got socialized; doctors, etc, that I have liked. I wouldn’t blame the “grunts” of the system, in fact some of them may be doing a job they love and the state makes it very hard to do what they like in private (in a police officers case, protecting the innocent perhaps). Also, it is possible that not everyone is familiar with libertarian philosophy. Likewise, I expect everyone to be acintg in their own self interests, even if it is a state subsidy.
Not really. The wrongs that you’re asked to do might be “worse” in the former (e.g., it may involve mass executions rather than merely locking people in a cell for a while), but I don’t think there’s a smaller probability of being asked to do wrong in the latter, since that probability is 100% in both cases.
I associate with many men who own guns. We do not seek control or dominance. I have worked for armed contract security firms. While working there we never went to war with the other competing armed private security firms in the area. I work proprietary security now, we have not declared war on the contract security firms that bid for the elimination of our proprietary department within the Corporation. In fact, we cooperate with them. The contract firms also cooperate with each other, though one firm has most of the contracts in the area, it is not because they eliminated the competition via war. They just offer a superior product at a lower cost.
The PD here is incapable of protecting anything consistently. The security firms here provide the services that coerced tax dollars pretend to provide. Most private officers are ex-cops or ex-military. We could all make more money as cops, I guess we just can’t stomach the method of acquiring that money.
Utopian? Anything but. It works in practice where I live. The only people we (private security officers,) actually worry about are the cops. In fact we do everything we can to minimize police involvement. When the police get involved we lose money, and generally have to defend ourselves from the crime of impersonating a police officer. This means we have made the police look bad by doing their job for them. The best strategy to keep this from happening is abnegation. Bow down to the state, tell them what a fool you were, and how great they are, then ask how to get a job with them. Flattery does wonders on indoctrinated thugs.
My point is that defense (security) companies do not go to war with each other. They compete yes, but not via the method of attrition.
You just managed to say a lot of information without saying anything. I could see why you would not want to put personal details, like what companies you are speaking of, where they are, what types of business they take part, but frankly unless you put those in this personal testimony cannot be trusted.
