What would happen if The Second Bill Of Rights Act proposed by FDR had ever passed? The entitlement of a right to a job, a home, and health care… would this be semi-socialism?
This means, the road worker would HAVE to pay me to do work, such as panting parking lot stripes. He would have to pay me well, be nice to me, provide me with health care, and not put me in danger. People would HAVE to be forced to cooperate and get along.
Exactly, how would all of this had been done? What did FDR plan for all of this? What would have happened exactly if the Second Bill of Rights passed?
We would of probably ended up looking strikingly similar to Nazi Germany and we all knew how that ended up. To be quite frank with you, I think the economy would have collapsed here in America and after that well who knows, maybe several states would have seceded at that point. It’s almost impossible to say where we would be today, that’s for sure.

If you want a more nuanced and recent account on the economics of Nazi Germany, I would suggest Wages of Destruction by Adam Tooze (warning: it’s a very long read and would probably be a good ol book to read during the summer). I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, although this was before I developed an interest in AE.
But, more or less from what I recall it basically detailed the failure of the volksprodukt, keynesian stimulus, nationalized housing etcetera (which may interest you based on the subject of this post).

I pretty much laugh when liberal mention how awesome the US would of been if this was ever jammed through and passed. I don’t think they realize through their stupidity, what entails with the passage of FDRs Bill of Rights.

Have you read Wolfgang Schivelbusch’s Three New Deals? I haven’t, but I just got it over the mail today, and I think it deals with the similarities between FDR’s America and fascist Germany and Italy.

So along with reading MES, I think I may be set for the next few months. I’m looking forward to reading Block’s book though, seems like an interesting and thorough read.
That thoroughly destroyed any pro-public school position I had left. After reading it I was actually frustrated (more than before) about going to public school. If I actually read it while still in high school I don’t know what I would have done.
On the contrary, my professor for English wouldn’t let me write an Essay on the Government pulling out of education for our Education topic. She thought it was ridiculous, and I would sound like a lunatic. So I ended up writing one on a student voucher program instead.. not our ends, but eh, whatever.. vouchers will go a long way to decentralizing the education system once people see that choice and freedom works.
