See the FEE video link I posted. This is actually a proof that Somali legal system works. Because you have people who are otherwise violent men and aggressors, but when ashore they have to behave and be peaceble like everyone else. So Somalia solved its “pirate problem” for itself perfectly fine.
No, because private courts don`t claim jurisdiction over every single thing that takes place in a given area. They will only pass judgement on the specific cases brought before them.
What you call the “Somali Pirates” are in fact the volunteer coast guard of Somalia. They guard their property against violations and charge a toll to pass through their waters.
So far they have been much nicer and more courteous than any other coast guard, despite taking heavy casualties in their work.

*Faces invasion from NAU troops.
*Faces invasion from U.N. troops.
*Faces CIA operatives.
*Stands against a strongly subsidized “Transitional Government” force.
In any Statist society, things would be going the way of Zimbabwe. And yet, by most metrics living conditions are improving. I do not see how Somalia is the counter-argument. They appear to be thriving against all odds and with the cards stacked against them.
Voluntary coastguard? Are you being serious, or sarcastic? They pull a gun and force you to “pay a toll”. You aren’t given the option of simply leaving their “territory”, which isn’t just the waters near Somalia.
Some of us will create qualifiers about the need for respecting property rights in addittion to lacking a central government for anarchy to work.
This seems to be an institutional problem to me, however, and with the lack of an institution maker, it seems difficult to overcome - making it, at times, a crap-shoot as to whether a society without a central government will work or not.
That said, the chances are probably equally likely that a society with a central government will turn out badly also.

There is none of this “the people of Mississipi against Jane Doe” in private judiciary. You can not just sue random people. What is your connection to this woman and why should you be able to sue her?

I believe the idea is as follows: Somali “pirates” are simply fishermen who have homesteaded ’s waters, and can impose on their property whatever conditions they please on trespassers. Thus, they simply choose to shoot anyone who trespasses, this being their right. The only fault I find with them is that they do not make it clear to everyone trespassing that death is what awaits anyone moving into their waters. If they did so, I wouldn’t give a s..t if such “pirates” killed a million people and sunk a zillion tons of shipping.
