Rebuttal to "You want anarchy? Go to Somalia"

Stalin: “You want democracy? Go to Nazi Germany”

Reductio ad absurdum.

Note: Works mostly just on statists.

The quote in your thread isn’t even an argument. It’s bullying. The intended effect is to simply shut the target up. It implies that, if the target wants anarchy, he’s not welcome in [insert country other than Somalia here]. So I think the appropriate response is simply, “Make me.”

No.

?

You like government so much? Move to North Korea!

No as the revuttal to moving to Somalia, not as a response to your request for one

Two Responses:

But Wouldn’t Warlords Take Over?

Anarchy in Somalia

It’s not: “we want anarchy”.

It’s: “we want private property anarchy”.

And more specifically, it’s: “all else being equal, we prefer private property anarchy”.

For example, I do not want to live under private property anarchy, 50 000 BC.

+1 for clarity

Anarchism is unsustainable and always devolves into statism.

Hence, “You want anarchy? Pick any statist society”

In contrast, Constitutional Federal Republicanism (while not perfect) has best preserved and enhanced political, civil and economic freedoms of any system yet devised.

Hence, “You want peace, stability, freedom and prosperity? Pick any liberal democracy.”

Indeed, by any objective, rational and independent thinking measure, even the most hardcore faith-based anarchist would be hard pressed to identify a single legitimate federal ‘political prisoner’ among liberal democracies. Moreover, if these same rabid haters of all things Constitutional and American really believed a fraction of the nonsense they spew on these forums, if they had any honor and courage, they must be in the streets fighting to remove this supposed heinous violator of civil and poltiical liberties.

If not, why should any rational and indepedent thinking citizen take any of the anarchist rhetoric seriously, if all they are capable of doing is exhausting hot air in the presence of so heinous our government’s actions?

Why does Constitutional Federal Republicanism work relative to anarchism ?

Because liberal democracies intentionally institutionalize, balance, limit, decentralize and make transparent the elements of coercion and armed force in society.

In contrast, anarchism has no such mechanisms in place to forestall the emergence of a territorial monopoly of armed force. Private military corporations can grow and centralize without restrictions in utter opaqueness. Indeed, it is beneficial for the military industry to coalesce into a single cartel in order to reduce costs to the consumer via economies of scale and increased cooperation among industry competitors to reduce the costs associated with conflict.

Lastly, any absolutist that takes power within a formerly anarcho-capitalist society can count on minimal resistance since these ideologues will not fight to secure their freedom, save ad nauseam blog postings.

There is ample empirical evidence of this.

Yeah, man, just look at that sissy Adam Kokesh and his wimpy arms (as he gets pepper sprayed in the face for a demonstration):

There is ample empirical evidence of this.

You know what there’s evidence for? That the very democracy you so adamantly espouse has every time devolved into a bureaucratic, regulatory, taxation nightmare in constant war with the world.

It’s called tact and understanding the political climate.

Why aren’t you out there protesting TARP? I don’t see you occupying DC or the Fed.

I suppose the Communist witch hunts are so easily forgotten? What about the libertarian witch hunts?

the expected power play by statist that was predictably short-lived, discredited, and disbanded never to surface again!

Indeed, using you illogic – capitalism must be condemned because a company fails ?!!

Indeed, over 99% of free market enterprises fail and this is precisely why capitalism works. Your example confirms federal constitutional republicanism because it effectively countered and destroyed this attempt by statists to gain power by leveraging the communist threat.

rest assured that there will be further threats that will likely suffer the same fate. Constitutional Federal Republicanism is indeed sturdy and resilient.

WOW, I stand corrected.

A treasonous private in the army who intentionally violates the UCMJ and is being given a trial for this crime under judicial oversight for all to see and judge.

Five statist Cuban operatives from one of the most heinous and absolutist regimes sent to mnnitor free citizens exercising their free speech rights to condemn one of the most repressive regimes on the planet.

A black nationalist who shot and killed a policeman and was convicted in a court of law. MOreover this former black panther has never explained who really pulled the trigger despite the fact that he was wounded by the police officer and the gun that killed the police officer was lying next to mumia’s body.

And this one that further confirms my assertion that statists will likely fail when they there to gain power by denying poltiical and civil liberties within a constitutional federal republic

from YOUR source. the following :

Michele Kubby won an acquittal on all charges. Steve Kubby’s trial, owing to one juror’s refusal to acquit, received a mistrial on all the cannabis charges, which were eventually dropped. The jury also voted to convict on a possession charge involving a psilocybin mushroom stem and a few peyote buttons (a felony) found in their house. Kubby was sentenced to 120 days in jail. – wiki

And this from YOUR source:

Kubby’s legal status was resolved on July 3, 2008, when California Superior Court Judge, David Nelson, dismissed all charges against Kubby, clearing his name and record of any criminal activity – wiki

Amusingly, you have cited examples that show statist failures to gain power by coercive means within a liberal democracy.

By any objective, rational and independent thinking measure your defense of the indefensible is as shocking as it is amusing.

You have completely discredited your position and more than reinforced mine.

However, I will give you 24 hours to retract this nonsense or it will be re-posted on conservative blogs across the internet as comfirmation of the irrational faith-based illogical of the anarchist faith.

I will give you 24 hours to remove it since everyone from time to time makes a ridiculous grasping argument like your example above of ‘gross’ and ‘heinous’ American political and civil violations.

Thank you, oh kind sir.

Do note

More suggestions (which I haven’t examined completely):

But yes, I did not research those too much, and I will review the cases later.

Meanwhile, I like how you reject empiricism when convenient.

Right, because things like the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 are never passed.

Please do quantify “likely” for us.

Are you denying that Steve Kubby was at all the target of political persecution?

Who do you expect to intimidate with this outright bullying? I consider your behavior here to be nothing but repulsive, pathetic, and cowardly. And it certainly won’t shut me up.

Ah, yes, Centinel would be doing a great favor to the democratic side by selectively quoting one AnCap who suggested more ideas, admitting he had not completely reviewed them, and painting the entiiiiire anarchist spectrum (let alone AnCaps) with this brush. Don’t worry, Centinel. If you do that, I’m sure I can find an unintelligent guy who supports your policies to smear your side with :stuck_out_tongue:

Of course, one side has to be an adult and quit this foolishness. I won’t engage you in debate any further unless I cross a high threshold of having to talk to you. I don’t own this forum and I can’t make you leave, and truly, you leaving might decrease the debate variety in this community, but I am unsure why you keep posting the same posts to threads where you already know people don’t agree with you.

Peace.

@ wheylous,

I am not posting on this site to sway you or the assorted trolls that follow me from thread to thread (note that I dont consider you a troll) – I am posting to promote truth, intellectual balance, and encourage debate among the independent thinking and objective visitors to Mises.org.

In other words, you’re waging a pseudo-intellectual counter-attack against the positions espoused by Mises.org. Tell us something we don’t already know.
