Why the creeps? It has always been this way. The only difference being today there’s absolutely zero chance of change/revolution in case those in charge “abuse” their position. Want proof? Buy an airplane ticket and walk into an airport. How can people accept being put through such a ridiculous ordeal without questioning? How harassing old women and children is supposed to be acceptable to “keep terrorists at bay”? Yet there’s no uproar. No, there’s not even a murmur. Want even more proof? Look at the usual mainstream reaction to a Ron Paul speech: he’s a crazy old coot. How can a man imploring US citizens to stop murdering people half a world away or asking them to stop being whiny spoiled children be considered “crazy” is beyond me.
And we haven’t seen anything yet.

Wow, I see that “Live free or die hard” has already paved the way, psychologically, for the yanks to accept that scenario. People you should warm up to the hide of buying a plane ticked and be ready to move when the shit hits the fan.
It’s worth getting the creeps over, because it’s the one aspect of Minarchism/Anarchism that’s hard to deal with. Suppose you teach everyone about all the benfits of voluntary interaction and they still want a government, what then? It’s not convenient to the cause of freedom, but at some point all of us have the face the possibility at least that enough of our fellow human being might be such brutal, debased, cowardly, hateful, thieving bastards to keep such a regime alive and well. Very few people want to face that possibility, but we may have a government of some sort from here until eternity simply because people like controlling their neighbors; because they like exercising arbitrary authority; because they like taking and enjoying things which they did not earn; because they enjoy doing violence to each other. Thievery and murder have been a part of human existence as far back as recorded history goes, there’s no reason to think it’s institutionalized form will disappear any time soon.
And we will be among the first to be relocated to a “safer” place due to our independent, freedom-loving thinking.
