what would you guys think ?
i dont know what good it would do. isnt that part of russia (kamchatka???) pretty much sparsely populated?? would ice potentialy harm it?? is the water to deep??

Definitely cool as an engineering accomplishment. I guess if the government is going to waste money, it could at least be fun, like making high and fast flying jets, extremely long bridges, big ass boats, etc. But what the hell would be the point? It’s not like there’s a shortage of commerce between the continents. It’d probably end up being the ultimate bridge to no where. Though I can’t say the idea of being able to almost drive around the world isn’t apealling in an adventure kinda way.

Well, assuming away the fact that, if ever built, it shall be a government project, from a private investor’s perspective, I would not favor it so much. Technically it’s very complex, immensely costly and time-consuming, leads form nowhere to nowhere, goods can move much more cheaply by ship (or dirigibles perhaps), and if one decides to drive from Seattle to Korea, well they will probably take a ferry. All told, if much more sensible projects like the bridge get turned down, I see no reason why an investor would want to gamble money on this. At least I would want nothing to do with it.

Global Energy Network International, a group based in San Diego, has advocated for years for an electricity intertie across the Bering Straits. The idea is to connect the grids of North America with Asian grids and ultimately Europe’s grids - creating a global grid. That would reduce the need for new powerplants, since electricity could then be transported instantly from light-side earth to dark-side earth as the earth revolves. Their idea has gotten some traction, and criticism from advocates of local decentralized energy like wind turbines, solar cells, fuel cells, etc.. Some want a bridge because it could include oil pipelines into Siberia.
