I think the other documentary was really good (Money, Banking and the Federal Reserve). The time is ripe for one on the crash of 2008 and the subsequent stagnation. A documentary on google video would be a great way to promote austrian economics, especially among students (future academics).
I like what Tom Woods did with Meltdown. He is getting the austrian theory out there when people are looking for answers. A good documentary could go ‘viral’ and have a big effect.
This was uploaded to youtube on Mises Media page… then apparently it was copyrighted / flagged violating someones copyright? I mean lulwut. It named a name - and it was on the comment section of the Youtube page, but now - suprisingly all those comments alluding to the problem have been removed.
I think the Mises Institute should produce another documentary.
In my experience, people who aren’t passionate about economics and political philosophy (i.e. beginners and noobs) don’t have the willpower or attention span to sit down and read a book or an article. They do, however, love to watch documentaries, probably because it requires much less sustained effort than reading. This was true in my case: I started out watching Milton Friedman videos on youtube and the money and banking documentaries.
Thus, documentaries are the best way to promote our ideas to young people.
Of course, a documentary would be expensive, but if it’s well done, I think it would be worth it. And now is the perfect time (actually, I think anytime in the next few years would be good, because there’ll be plenty of stagnation to explain).
And wouldn’t it be cool to see the interview scenes with the Austrian intellectuals? I thought it was awesome to see Hoppe, Salerno, Rockwell, etc in the other docu.
