This makes waiting on traffic lights even more frustrating since you know the truth that they are (largely) superflous sources of congestion dreamed up by panicky control freaks.
EDIT: Also we should probalby make a topic that would be a depositry of news of this sort (the positive results of less central planning in traffic). There have been quite a few so far.

Murder would be easier if people were allowed to do it. After all, you wouldn’t have to put up with all the costs of trying to cover your tracks.

I was just pointing out the logical flaw in his broad statement. It doesn’t matter what he or anyone else believes when determining the rationality of a statement.

What? There’s nothing inherently statist about traffic lights. They serve a vital function; they convey important information and they do this well. Accidents usually occur when they malfunction. I’m not saying that there would be millions of deaths each year if we were to eliminate them, but how could you deny that they’re generally very useful? Traffic lights would exist in the libertarian society.

It’s simply just that because State roads aren’t privately owned, anything done with them is completely arbitrary. There isn’t a rational method in determining whether a light or sign should be installed, what type of material in the roads composition should used, whether a line should be painted, or anything.
On the other hand, if, say, a supermarket is experiencing traffic issues in its parking lot, the owners suffer losses and it’s up to them to resolve them lest they drive away potential business.
Because obviously now it is the drivers operating the vehicles and present on the scene who determine if and for how long should they stop at an intersection, instead of the detached central planners setting the traffic lights timers. Instead of one decision you have thousands of them.

How about you not put words into my mouth? I didn’t say traffic lights are “inherently statist”. For one a traffic light is an object. An object can not be “statist”.
