Great video, as usual. It’s pretty hard to ignore the fact that pro-war authoritarianism correlates more highly with abusive, authoritarian childhoods than HIV does with AIDS.

But I have my doubts about the US court system being the vehicle for major strain against the elites…

You know what troubles me about the whole Wikileaks thing is the massive amount of complete garbage that the U.S. Government has classified as Secret. Most of what has been reported shouldn’t be higher than Confidential. They’re spending a lot of stolen money to keep this information from getting out. In a time of economic crisis, that would be the first question I’d be asking. Is all of this classification even necessary?

None of the released information is Top Secret, which is what I believe was the basis for past executions of those involved with espionage (if someone can point to an example that contradicts this statement, please do so). Do all these people really want to kill someone over uncovering the fact that Prime Minister X is a bit kinky or has a drinking problem?

What you’re seeing is a knee-jerk reaction and an attempt to contrast themselves from what they view as a relatively weak position on terrorism by the Obama administration. It’s nothing but political guff and posturing.

Now I am also a bit concerned over all this hacking done either by or on the behalf of Wikileaks. Dispersing information is one thing, taking down businesses (regardless of how brief) is quite another. This really doesn’t help them make their case that they are just reporting the truth, and enforces the position of their opposition that they are a terrorist organization. These most recent actions probably have done more to harm Assange than help him. If the U.S. attempts to charge him with espionage, he can use a 1st amendment defense and probably win. With the hacking, however, his defense has become much more problematic, and the U.S. government could try to get him for terrorism - an area of law they see to be making up as they go along. Before the hacking, the best I think they had on him was some obscure sexual misconduct charge. Now they may be able to go for the throat.

As a point of information, it has not been wikileaks committing the DDoS attacks, it’s been a group on 4chan called Anonymous, who are in no way affiliated with wikileaks, as far as I know. If I had to guess, Mr. Assange probably thinks of this as an incredibly bad idea. If the idea was to punish these organisations for complying with the government, then it’s hardly working, since the downtime caused by these attacks, if any, is at most a minor nuissance. The idea that these attacks are hurting their profit margin by increasing hosting costs is also ridiculous (which I’ve seen expressed in some news articles), I mean, we’re talking about large multinationals here, website hosting costs aren’t even a row on their balance sheets.

Sounds like they are in the midst of trying to sell the idea that it is ok to kill Julian Assange to the public.

These are sick people and hopefully, people will see through their pathetic attempt to silence freedom of the press and speech.

Is there evidence for this? Stef makes claims like this a lot and it sounds plausible enough, but I haven’t seen empirical evidence backing it up (not saying he has never given any).

And the correlation, in the US, between AIDS and HIV is a matter of definition. If you have what appears to be AIDS but don’t set off a so-called HIV test, you are diagnosed with Idiopathic CD4 T-Cell Lymphopenia. In a similar fashion we might prevent fascism from ever coming to the United States: we’ll just call it something else!

Since we don’t have full disclosure on who is a member of Wikileaks and who has commited the hacking could we also question whether the U.S. Government might find it in their own interest to hack these sites in order to prop up their case? The only evidence we have so far has been the claims made by individuals that they were responsible for the hacks, and they’ve attributed the attacks to the shutdown of the Wikileaks site. There’s a level of detail here that we just don’t have, but overall the hacks haven’t helped Assange in the so-called court of public opinion.

Didn’t comment on the Bank of America claims because I’ve heard the rumors associated with Bank of America and Wikileaks are not true. If Assange wanted to hit where there is the most impact, my guess would be that the target of the next leak is Goldman Sachs. Goldman Sachs has their fingerprints everywhere. As with any conspiracy, the more people involved the more difficult it is to hide the wrong doing. Most people already suspect there’s been some shady dealings between Goldman Sachs and the U.S. Government, but the details may be surprising. So while information pertaining to Bank of America might cause a ripple, information associated with Goldman Sachs, especially interactions with the Fed and the U.S. Government, would possibly be a tidal wave.
