Two newbie qs

Come on LS, this is bad form. Anyone who understands a subject should be able to explain it very briefly, but in a way that will yield the results of a more in-depth explanation. No one actually wants to read these days, we just want to know what’s in the book without doing any work. But here you are, trying to tell us that we should actually put effort into understanding complex concepts. How disappointing…

It is rich that you don’t know what you’re talking about, but you think you are clever enough to tell people how to answer you.

There are plenty of reading lists around here. Search them, read the source materials, and come back with better questions. Right now, you’re arguing from a position of ignorance, and then claiming that the answers aren’t brief enough, or within your capacity to understand them is somehow our fault.

If you can’t (or won’t) use the site or google search, then no one can help you. If you won’t read what many of us read in a week, then we can’t help you. If you insist upon making demands without putting in effort, you will not find relief.

There are people with better attitudes and a more sincere commitment to learning we can respond to. I know I will.

Let me tell you a very brief story. I think it might give you some perspective. I came to a more radical libertarianism and austrian economics not because I agreed with those positions when I first saw them. I had almost the opposite reaction at first. No, I looked into them because the person who I first saw talking about them was very polite, very cogent, and very humble. I was so impressed by his calm, polite demeanor, that I read a book that he had as one of his favorites. Then another that he recommended, and then another.

Eventually I came to the Mises forums, and I noticed a lot of the same characteristics in LS (among others). I think this is a good thing. I think a humble, yet composed demeanor online will do as much to attract people to your ideas as being right about them will. Might as well try be both, right?

But then again, what do I know. I’m a sycophant.

I’m certainly willing to be polite and civil to polite and civil people. Reread your original post in a calm detached humble manner and see if it passes the politeness and civilty test. If you say it does, then I will know what your standards are in these matters.

I am certainly pleasantly surprised to hear that LS shares those admirable qualities. It would make my heart glad to see them in action here, not just hear about them second hand. Perhaps I misunderstood his intentions. I certainly don’t want him to feel obligated to post here.

Those are my last words on personal matters. I am truly a friendly guy, when not vexed by personal attacks.
