Yes it will suffer the same fate. No it cannot learn anything form it, for there is no way in which it can avoid bankruptcy. No state ever could.

I understand why the Soviet Union fell, but why did it take so long? I know that they tried to add a dash of markets to their system, and there was a black market, but still, it lasted for nearly 70 years that does not seem like a good sign. The U.S. still has a ways to go before it reaches the Soviet level of socialism. Is the US journey on the road the serfdom more insidious, because of how slow the growth has been. What is so Orwelian about the whole thing is that whole lot of people ACTUALLY THINK they are free, and they actually became huge statists on their own free will. I would think that a free thinker in the USSR would be able to at least question ‘I wonder why the government has to hit us over the head so much to tell us how great they are?’
I don’t think that states go bust after achieving some X level of totalitarianism. Should that be the case, the US would still have a loooong way to go. But history speaks differently: states go bust when they can no longer fiscally appease the important societal strata. In this sense what people expct of the US government to bear its power is far, far more expensive to produce than what people excepted of the USSR. This means that the US is going bankrupt imposing a far lighter burden on its economy than the USSR did.
