Was the Wild West Really That Wild?

Its a popular argument for those who wish to keep open carry prohibited. everyone would be walking around with a gun…“it’d be like the wild west”…

My gut instinct is that the Wild West wasn’t that wild…has anyone studied this period?

Was it safer with everyone allowed to carry guns?

Was everyone allowed to carry guns? openly?

“When everyone carries a gun, people tend to avoid confrontation.”

Funny that you’d say that

Seeing as it’s a famous example

People were allowed to openly carry in public. The decision for a gun free zone was determined by the property owner. Still is in most of the west

I live in Laramie, WY where open-carry is legal everywhere except on the university campus. Though, in my three years here I’ve never actually seen anyone openly carry a gun nor have I heard of anyone being gunned down.

I live across the state is pa. Near the Joisey border. I open carry all the time. I’ve seen a few people here and there OC. We need more, guess who has never been mugged for threatened.[;)]

Gun free zones are killing zones for criminals. Criminals don’t follow laws that prohibit guns in any particular area, but law abiding citizens do. Take Forth-Worth for example where trained soldiers were prohibited from carrying a weapon. An ideal killing zone for a criminal! In that case, as most others, you need someone with a gun to stop a killer with a gun.

All a killer needs is the 8 minutes for police to respond. 9-11 response is a mop up crew.

I feel safer if I know that law abiding citizens have the means to stop a killer that may enter my presence and attempt to inflict a life threatening crime against me or someone else. Having said that, I believe that people who own or carry guns should be properly trained and follow a code of safe procedures to know when an incident justifies the use of a weapon and that the user who uses it does not increase the danger of those surrounding him/her.

It wasn’t–until government law enforcement showed up and actually caused more problems.
