What are your thoughts on the Paris Commune?

I have read a little about it and it doesnt really qualify to me as a marxist experience but it is cataloged as a one of the first socialist states, kinda.

What do you think about it? Was it a truly socialist government? with socialist policies?

If not how would you called it? Could have it worked?

I don’t know a great deal about it, but the wikipedia entry has some more info. I would imagine, if it operated in the contemporary socialist way, that it would fall apart rather quickly due to the socialist problem of calculation.

It lasted two months. If you compare what the revolutionary governments in Russia or Cuba accomplished in two months, it’s about even.

If there is one thing I know about the French people its that at the first sign of trouble they will always pile debris in the streets.

One of the commune’s first decrees was to return ‘the workers’ pawned tools, IE by stealing them from pawn shops that legitimately bought them. If thats not socialist I dont know what is. Not to mention they also executed the Archbishop of Paris.
