What in the hell do we do with all those nukes?

If another financial crisis in this country renders the government unstable and the military as an in institution is in complete disarray? What the heck could we possibly do if this ever happens?

And I still don’t understand why we haven’t dismantled a good majority of them to use them for energy purposes…But, anyway does anyone have a solid answer for my question?

If the government collapses, you can be confident that it won’t matter what anyone thinks should happen with the nukes.

The same thing that happened to the Soviet Union’s nukes.

Sell them to the highest bidder.

I thought the material for the weapons is a by-product of nuclear energy in the first place. This is why it is no coincidence that the US has been systematically dismantling their arsenal and why new nuclear power plants haven’t been built for decades…

Not exactly an expert here but I think that weapon-grade nuclear material can be used only in so-called fast –breeder reactor, which are by far the coolest reactors. They can keep reusing their spent fuel over and over again and produce only a fraction of wastes than a normal reactor. So theoretically they can be used in energy-production. The converse is always true.

Why is this a big concern?

Why would they use things in an efficient way? The nuke-builders want work and pay, the oil-people want work and pay, the green-energy people want work and pay. Seems to me like asking why haven’t they given up the war on drugs yet, or anything else seemingly rational from the consumers point of view.

You could start a company that buys up and recycles use out of nuclear weapons:

-Make breeder reactors (as has been suggested)

-Do something akin to Project Orion.

-I’ve heard plans of terraforming Mars with nukes…

-Sell them to Black Cat Fireworks…
