I’ve read that article by lew rockwell before, and i think he makes a serious error. maybe, walmart is nefarious and their board members deceptive by supporting higher labor costs, but this dabbles in unfalsifiable conspiracy theory. the board of walmart might have just fallen into the same thinking many other economists use, which is that higher wages (especially among a consumer base of low income) equals more revenues for retail-plus a generally higher standard of living. Can we make an assumption that walmart believes the government can legislate for the benefit of their enterprise, sure. But theories on the motives are not limited to assuming that every firm will “warm up” to the state in a scheme to corner the market.
Well, I linked Rockwell’s article mainly to illustrate the fact that criticizing wal-mart doesn’t mean one is a left-libertarian.
So, no eminent domain, but apparently a billion in various subsidies. Still, I wonder why Powell, Carden and Kirklin would assume Wal-Mart uses e.d.
On the other hand, googling for “wal-mart eminent domain” does bring up various stories citing places and dates, but not much more details. Some stories here
