IF only Education/Healthcare were a priority to congress like WAR and BANKS are; we would all be living the American dream.
Economics: Is a social science, not a business science. In Economics we should agree that individuals maximize their wellbeing. Now I ask myself and yourselves. How did we separated education/healthcare from "Economics and put them in communism.???
No actually us libertarians hate healthcare and education, we realise that governments provide them really well and that the free market is unable to do so but we oppose government intervention anyway.
Nothing is wrong with everyone having education and healthcare.
We already have free public education as an option up until the child graduates from high school so public spending on this may not mean improvement at all but instead could make the actual education worse (look at New York City public schools…which tend to get worse the more money is spent on them).
Health care…I have health care but not a health care plan. I pay for my own as I visit the doctor and it is cheaper than my cat’s veternarian. (I have not compared the costs of neutering though).
And…we do have socialised health care. Get sick, go to a county or state hospital, and refuse to pay the bill they send you. I live in a neighborhood here in New York where people are a bit more poor than other areas of the city and many get free (for them) health care. We don’t have a national socialised medicine plan but there are definately county and state ones that tend to produce the “bad health care” ratings of the United States.
So we have a bunch of confused, sick children who cannot find Ireland…all with state intervention.
Education is one of the most socialized sectors of the American economy. Other nations have more privatized systems and have better education, what does that tell you?
America actually has the highest quality health care of every single nation, according to the WHO. America only suffers from issues of “fairness” and “equality” even though Americans have better survival rates of terminal illnesses than anyone else.
I think this kind of post is precisely what leads people to wonder if there is a way to improve the structure – some guy just drops in and makes crazed assertions and then people feel the need to refute the nonsense.
Or maybe it’s good in terms of helping to exercise the debating chops.

There is nothing wrong with these ends, taken alone. I oppose using force, or stealing, as means to achieve these ends.

IF only abolition of government was important to government, we would be living in a place of peace and prosperity. Why doesn’t the government start right now? I wonder…

This happens on a lot of boards, and it brings the same wonder. I’m torn between it being good for the n00bs to Austrian econ, but annoying to those who would just like to point and say RTFF!
What about an inner circle, e.g. closed forum only accesible by invitation? You would ensure quality postings there without annoying anyone else?
This way you could have both, quality discussions and flame war spicked public forums from where to “recruit” new sensible member for the “inner” forums?
I think it is worth to have a space where people can discuss nonsense as they might get a glimpse of rational arguments even there. Education starts with curiosity and curious people will ask questions, that, at first, might be silly and annoying to someone already kneedeep in the matter. Yet, the advice “go and read” might come across a bit arrogant at times. So rather to say “Before you open your mouth, know what you are talking about” it might be better to let them talk and point them to where they can find arguments to bash their antagonists.
Creating an inner circle to discriminate which posts would be admitted and which ones would not be admitted, for me is equivalent that the government deciding arbitrarily which sector of the population deserves being granted a certain subsidy and which other sector of the population must suffer the consequences of bureaucratic exclusion. Especially in a forum like Mises.org that prizes itself on freedom without government interference.

I can not follow your argument. Freedom must involve the freedom to not talk about anything to anyone too,no?
The issue is not to prevent someone from achieving arcane knowledge, nor to keep serious searchers out of the loop. The very point is that this way there is a forum where one can discuss in depht issues that need some prerequisites in terms of knowledge to be discussed. If you where a professional cook and wanted to exchange knowledge on sophisticated recipies with other professionals, woudn’t it be annoying to read in every second threat about how to boil eggs?
Nothing against providing knowledge about how to boil eggs, but it is just off topic for a serious discussion between professional cooks. Same goes for explaining over and over again the principles of libertarianism, marginal utility, praxeology, Donald Ducks toes and whatever pops up almost in every thread I had the pleasure to read (sometimes I even contributed to the nonesense I have to admit).
For sure, the place I am writing this is the property of the Mises Institute and they can do whatever they like, and insofar the replies you got from others are right. Yet, exactly to keep the high quality in the forums a diversion betwwen public and “by invitation” forums seeems appropriate to me.
