The problem is learning where to find more information. Also by answering even those stupid questions, you teach someone something new that they will teach others and hopefully remove the question.
Besides everyone likes to say it works all over the world why can’t we have it.
There are way too many forums. I only use the global thread listing, which is what makes newbie threads so annoying - they crowd out the interesting threads.
Right, you mean something like a forum for more advanced users perhaps? I don’t see what the issue is with that as long as the newer users can still read it and learn from it anyway.
No. Not a forum for X users. The forums should be topical. Who in their right mind is going to post in a noobie forum? Who is not going to want to read the advanced forum? It’s just creating artificial divisions. People need to find the threads pertaining to their questions, so those questions are answered without redundant postings. But if it’s organized by new/old, beginner/advanced, that’s no help at all in locating topics by subject.
As it is, the forum home page stinks. It shows the latest threads regardless of forum. The actual categories should be emphasized like on other forums. That way newbies and advanced folk will find their way to area of topical discussion, regardless of the volume or frequency of posts. What sort of topics are being most talked about (say noobish ones) are only trivia.
I mean, whatever. Files have been messed up for ages now, and no one is fixing it. I’m probably speaking in to the void here. Which is fine. This place has really gone downhill since the summer ended.

There clearly is a divide, there is a huge difference between the level of posts such "What is wrong on having “education and healthcare for everyone???111!” and the standards of posting of the more advanced users. It makes sense to divide the two in order to cater for the more advanced users who don’t wish to waste their time with topics such as these and the newer who posters who wouldn’t be able to follow the more advanced topics anyway.
The older posters would still post in the other forums because I daresay they’d be more active and interesting topics would still appear. Newer members would still be able to learn from the more advanced forums by reading them and would have an incentive to make more valuable posts to gain access to them. All this would do is prevent resentment towards the newer members making topics such as this one.
In the end, advanced posters have the option of simply leaving and creating fora focused on specialized discussions on Austrian econ. We can do it now, even. And then we will indeed leave this forum entirely. As I indicated, many otherwise valuable potential members have chosen not to join because this forum is too huge and unwieldy. I personally will not leave, but I’d like a section of the forum for advanced or at least serious students of Austrian econ to discuss topics specific to it. I agree that the forum organization is messed up and that a newbie section is not a good idea (the division could be “Advanced praxeology”, “praxeology”, “Thymology and History” and “general discussions”, with only the first being invitation-only and praxeology subsuming political science and ethics.)

There are two kinds of mises forum users: the old, and the new. We are still together, and we have the chance to remain together. We have the chance to grow together.
I repeat my question:
Which direction do we want mises.org fora to take ?
Actually, no, this isn’t about some sort of “old” vs “new” posters because that would be useless, it’s not an attempt to reward the older posters for simply having been on these forums for a longer time, it’s an attempt to raise the standard of discussion for the more advanced posters and to create an environment in which the less knowledgable posters will feel comfortable asking questions whilst giving them an incentive to create valuable posts.
But what’s the problem? You don’t have to read them. It might be nice to have an “ignore this thread” button so it doesn’t appear on the list, but if there was a separate “newbie bin” I would never look at it - I assume others wouldn’t either; and newbies would realize that and post in the main forum.
An ignore this thread would be a good option; you can do something similar on reddit (hiding links, unsubscribing from sub-reddits if you don’t want to view all the political spam etc.)
