What makes people vote Republican?

Funny. I’d just have said stupidity. Anyway, he makes some good points, that libertarians should heed (they reflect critiques of liberalism by communitarians and other post-/anti-modernists.) There are inconsistencies in this though (like how he acknowledges the conservative critique of welfarism, yet proceeds to blame some mythical free market for social degeneration…)

Since blacks vote upwards of 90% for Democrats, he’s obviously talking about white working class and rural Americans. And they vote Republican because then at least they have a fighting chance, whereas the Democrats want to marginalize them completely.

What makes people vote Republican? Why in particular do working class and rural Americans usually vote for pro-business Republicans when their economic interests would seem better served by Democratic policies?

Leftists have long assumed that non-leftist working class and rural Americans fail to vote for them because they’re stupid, worthless, idiot hicks who don’t know what’s best for them (the paternalistic hand of the State). But how is it in their best interest to see their jobs and paychecks taxed/regulated away? How is it in their best interest to pay regressive taxes? How is it in their interest to be told what they can eat, when to wear their seatbelts, when they can smoke, how many guns they can own, etc? Nobody’s economic interests are “served” by the Democrats (though not Republicans much either).

Can’t stand Democrats. They’re a bunch of snobs. The majority of them are first time voters, who don’t know a thing about politics and merely vote for the D’s because their friends do, or because it’s the cool thing to do.

I 100% agree. I am one of those blue collar Southerners who is ‘supposed’ to vote Democrat, because apparently, what I need is more social democracy, I just dont know it. I have always found this attitude by Democrats toward normal people very insulting and demeaning.

That said, the only voting I do is in local referendums .

Stupidity.

Often, people don’t realize what they parties actually support when they cast their votes.

And some 40% don`t even vote.

Democrat - Republican seems pretty much a culture thing.

Why white working class outside the rust belt doesnt vote Democrat is like asking why Bostonians dont root for Lakers. Its not their team. Thats it.
