Where can you find the Founding Fathers loathing democracy?

In which documents? Online sources?

“A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.”

  • Thomas Jefferson

I haven’t read the Federalist Papers in a while, but I recall them discussing democracy and its shortcoming.

Read the Constitution. They never mentioned the word “democracy” there. They did mention the word “republic” though.

The constitution is one source. I heard that the Pres is not elected by democratic vote, rather by an electoral college, because they loathed democracy. And why senators were not elected by popular vote [until a recent amendment] either, for the same reason.

According to this (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/j/johnadams136320.html), John Adams said:

I’m no expert, but it seems to me that the founders rightly understood that Democracy was essentially nothing more than mob rule. They tried to design a system that allowed self-governance but prevented the tyranny of the majority.

It seems to me that their attempts were a failure.
