I am glad I know what I know because:
I can copy music and dvds, try to avoid taxes, and do gray/black market business, without feeling like I am doing anything wrong.
So I don’t go around chasing goals that don’t fulfill me.
I enjoy the peace of mind that comes from mental hygene. Life seems richer when you have clear perception and aren’t mentally encumbered by loads of BS. Problems can be seen through and solved with less effort and uncertainty. I can sense a calculus of principles evolving in my mind whereas before there was only confused emotions.

I personally like it for this reason. Drinking the kool-aid is harmful. Your errors in political philosophy manifest themselves in your personal life. If you think its okay for government to control the economy, why can’t individuals do the same? People who I know that are big fans of government tend to stick in groups and gang up on people dissenters like me. People who i know that are at least skeptical of government feel uncomfortable relying on support from their peers.
Its no surprise to me that the majority of people in the oil business are pro-free markets. They understand supply/demand/consumer sovereignty best.

Very well said indeed! I would second your sentiments. Life would be truly hard if you had to juggle the contradictory statistics for or against free markets.
