This is the sort of horror that occurs in all wars, and has occurred since the institution was invented. The cool thing about this, however, is that it was caught on video for the world to see. Until now, these sorts of atrocities went largely un-reported, but because we have the ubiquitous video technoglogy that exists now, it’s becoming harder and harder to wage war and keep its most horrific aspects from the public eye. Gone are the days of Newsreels. Now we have YouTube, and sites like it, in all their brutal honesty.

I’m just curious; do you have a source for this? I’ve been searching for information on the optics pilots have in Apache helicopters but can’t find much about “high resolution.” I have a military-buff on another forum telling me that what the pilots saw is what we saw (the grainy footage from the on-craft camera).
I don’t know how high the resolution is. But, the optics piece does not record itself, there has to be a camera set up coaxially that records the footage.
I think the TV optics is seen through the gunner’s helmet display. The gunner’s sight can also mount a coaxial camera and telescope. This one had both; IIRC, the gunner zooms in during the opening seconds.
I think every single person killed by the U.S. government in the Middle East in the last 50 years is a criminal act, regardless of whether or not the people killed had weapons or not. Every single one of them was an innocent victim. So even if they really did have AK-47’s and RPGs, the people in the helicopter should have left them alone.

but in this case I agree with you- seeing as the US government never had any right to ever go into the middle east and kill anybody in the past century. But this line of thought will make some people’s brains explode. (“What! All those brown people can’t be innocent that’s impossible! look at them, with their evil head coverings and that Al-Ah guy they always talk about!”)

That’s untrue; it may be true of night sights - which I have personal experience with - but not optical day sights, especially electronically enhanced sights. The camera mounted coaxially to the sights are bound to get a worse image than the gunner, because they aren’t made to be as clear as the gunner’s … probably for issues of cost and necessity.
The gunner does not get the camera feed. The gunner, like it says in that photograph, has an optical sight and has an electronic sight. But the camera is mounted coaxially as an option; the TV sight is completely separate.

Can you condemn him for not being compassionate with that statement? Seems contradictory.
