To all the people bashing Ron Paul, I’d like to know which one of you has done more to proliferate the ideas of Austrian Economics and has directly been involved in standing up to this tyrannical government since the 1970s? Any takers? As somebody else brought up, if you think the guy is going to run on a platform of anarchy and have any substantial amount of people take him seriously you’re living in LaLa land.

Man oh man, I wish. Unfortunately, Ron is the only guy in the entire government who could be considered an actual libertarian. The rest of the so-called “Republican Liberty Caucus” is a bad, bad joke (to put it mildly). The Libertarian Party is politically irrelevant and barely even promotes libertarianism any more.
A libertarian president is pretty unlikely. While that may be depressing, we should be proud of the fact that our ideology isn’t appealing to politicians or the power hungry. There’s good reason for it.

Anyway, if I had my way, the Constitution would be amended to clearly allow secession. You are quite right about the Libertarian Party being politically irrelevant. But if the United States dissolved, libertarians might have better political chances.
i read an article in slate.com today about some republican type dude, who they qouted as saying he wishes the government was so small ‘it could be taken to the bathroom and drowned’ rob noquist i think. anyone know anything about the guy?

That would be Grover Norquist. He runs a lobbying outfit called Americans for Tax Reform. Grover is good on the tax issue. He’s pretty much a one issue guy though.

Ron Paul has inspired so many all over the world. And he’s a proof of concept: an honest politician!? I’d never believed it unless I’d seen it in my lifetime. RP has bridged some difficult decades. Now, with the economic cycles wearing down keynianism generation by generation, and also thanks to the internet facilitating critical information exchange, I do think that we have golden days ahead. RP has run one of the hardest part of this historic race to liberty. From now on, it will be a little easier to continue.
He’s consistent AND tactical. This is possible only by never accepting one step in the wrong direction, but by being willing and patient enough to accept however small, and imperfect, steps in the right direction.

Good point! Johnson is easily the most libertarian ex-governor out there. And apparently, he has expressed some interest in the 2012 race.

I like peter schiff - a regular guy type. But he just seems like he’s so honest that he has trouble keeping his cool. In addition his anti dollar stance would easily be twisted into an anti american stance by the media. Another Ron Paul? What I think we need is a sort of 95 Theses, a clear public educational movement that supports and informs about the principles, and Candidates that would run by pointing at the principles. I realize that the idea isn’t new - what I’ve described is what a party is. Educate the masses, that’s key.
I would too, unless Mark Sanford (if he’s more viable than Johnson) runs on an acceptable platform: As ProudCapitalist said, we should never accept a step in the wrong direction, but we should be willing to accept small steps in the right direction.
