In a interview on some talk show I just watched, Oliver Stone called for windfall profit taxes on oil companies because the oil companies made huge profit profits and haven’t reinvested those profits back into society. (Note: All the reinvestments oil companies have made don’t count, so, don’t bring them up.) So, I say, windfall-profit-tax Oliver Stone’s profits from his films, after all, he hasn’t reinvested those profits back into society, besides bring us wonderful films like Platoon, Scarface, The Untouchables, Wall Street.
Does it count that the great bulk of energy companies in the world are socialized or partially state-owned? If you wish to include rent-seeking then I’d say 100% of energy companies are hand-in-hand with the state.

Also, no one ought to mention that inflation played a huge role in moving the price of oil to record highs.
Or restriction of supply by the US government.

I have often wondered what would happen to these armchair leftists should they be forced to part with their luxury cars, their villas and their large bank accounts to fund all those wonderful initiatives they want to ram down other people’s throats.
But all in all I simply cannot feel sorry for any oil company. They have benefitted way too much from State interference for decades. Again, we should let them have a taste of their own medicine.
