I’ve kind of gone back and forth between whether Obama would win a 2nd term; I remember, when everyone was unhappy about McCain’s loss vs. Obama’s win, I was saying that Obama’s win wouldn’t yield a good average (most people who voted for him did so to get him out; and I don’t think McCain cared that much), so I always had some hope that Ron Paul Republicans would win in 2012.
Of course, I’ve learned, from people here, that no President could ever be tempted to not save us, other than Grover Cleveland.
However, do you think Rand Paul will win in 2012 and 16? I personally see it as quite a good reality, but what about you?
Are the people that lost in 2008 going to win in 2012?
I think Obama will win in 2012. Rand is not politically experienced enough yet. He’s getting his name out there though. He’s been in Kentucky giving speeches and taking questions. I can’t think of his name off the top of my head, but a current Republican Senator in Kentucky is losing favor with Republicans in Kentucky big time. He hasn’t stuck to the Republican party issues for years apparently and this stimulus stuff amongst others has Republicans asking him to step down and not rerun for his Senate seat. Rand says he has to convince his wife first to go into political office. She’s his number one voter he has to convince first. She’s not convinced yet. Also Rand has stated he will not run against the Republican Senator, so, will only run in Kentucky for that seat if the current Senator steps down and does not run again. Yet Rand is thinking about possibly other offices too he said. He would need to get more active in the Campaign for Liberty and start making more national appearances, which probably means mainstream TV and radio to gain national attention if he even wants to come close. What’s interesting is Campaign for Liberty has such a strong organization with numerous ways to reach out and is active in D.C. doing meetings with Congressional Leaders that it could turn into a political party. It’s possible.
Rand, of course, has the reputation and coverage of his father to fall back on and that helps. His name is widely known - Paul. But it would be an uphill battle for sure within the Republican Party and I know in the Party elections they always get concerned about National appeal. It is early still. But without that political office experience he would take a lot of hits from others running against him. Now if this State was really interested in quality principles he’d be able to climb up through the ranks easily, but we know this State is not about that. So Ron Paul and all his work might just simply turn into creating “hope” in people for something that gradually never comes.

Less than 500 people win olympic medals. Let’s say there are 1000 people on the forum. Let’s say there are 200 million realistic world contenders for olympic medals, and all 1000 mises forums members are in this amount. So 500,000/200,000,000 = 0.25%

Do I want Ron Paul to win? Yes. Do I think Ron Paul could win? Unfortinately no. What matters in presidential races is media coverage and internal political party power. Paul doesn’t really have either of those. Granted, I could see Republicans somewhat libertarianizing with Paul in order to go againist Obama, but thats a big IF. To Conservatives there are so many other “good” choices out there, like Romney or Palin or Jindal.Not to mention Paul would be going againist the Messiah, and any upset like that would be huge. I give him good luck and will vote for him, but he has his work cut out.
The Media and the Big heads in Washington don’t want Paul to win. They will do everything in their power to stop him. And in today’s world, thats alot.
Yes, now that everyone has pointed it out to me,I believe that President Obama will get a 2nd term.
However, I don’t think Joe Biden will be the next VP; It will be hillary clinton, I think. Joe Biden is worse than I am; he may be President, but he doesn’t have the brains to president, yet.
From a Kentucky Resident, Jim Bunning is definitely losing support here, but Bunning is stubborn, and will not step down from his seat. The two biggest contenders are Trey Greayson and David Williams. Trey Grayson is the KY secretary of state, but he needs to stay there, and David Williams is a big spending Republican. Bunning is actually one of the most fiscally conservative members of the Senate, so he really isn’t that bad. He was the only senator to vote against the appointment of Ben Bernanke as the Federal Reserve Board Chairman.
