I’m a former Democrat so I know what I’m talking about. I’m outraged whenever some great libertarian or anarcho-capitalist thinker says that they can carry out their plans by allying themselves with Republicans. It’s about the stupidest thing you could do. Why? Democrats would be able to demonize all of you so easily. They would just say that you’re corporate pigs… and that allying with the Republicans proves it. To a Democrat or leftist mostly all corporations are evil. Those that support these corporations are part of a capitalist conspiracy to oppress America and the rest of the world.
To a Democrat everything that we utter would just be empty rhetoric if all of us decided to side with the Republicans. If we said that we joined them because our philosophy is more closely linked to the Republicans side so that’s why we did it they would say that we sold out. I mean seriously, there are some good people on the left that would help us reach our goals if we stopped always catering to the Republican base… which makes us look even more like corporate pigs. The libertarian/anarcho-capitalist philosophy is neither a left nor right ideology correct? So why not reach out to the Democrats too… or just simply run on the libertarian ticket and take back the name from the contemporary libertarian party (who makes other people think that libertarians are crazy)? Seriously, this is the worst thing that any one of you could do (allying yourselves with Republicans). I just had to get that out because I’m outraged over how libertarian type people tend to think they can ally themselves with Republicans and get all of their goals met. It’s not a good strategy to take, trust me… as a former Democrat I know.
I’m talking about the libertarian types who run for office as a Republican (Your Peter Schiff and Ron Paul emulator types). I think that these people can really end up harming our image and do us more harm than good. Sure we get a libertarian in office. But it makes it all the more easy for Democrats to demonize us.
Mmmm. And yet when the chips are down you pay a few hundred billions in bailouts. Just do what all reasonable people should do. Agree with the Reps. Where u do an the dems. where you do and disagree with both where you do.
Ron Paul is bringing in people from the Conservative movement to a place where they can discover libertarian philosophy for the first time in their lives.
There really is no logical reason for why the Democratic part cannot be used as a platform to advance libertarian ideas also. The ideas of Ron Paul are as far from the Republican Party as they are from the Democratic party. I do agree that it is a mistake to concentrate only the Republican Party.
The leadership is the same in both parties, both interested in increasing their power and giving money to their rich friends.
But the party line [or lie] is different. Republicans say give money to the rich only, i.e. warmakers etc. The Democrats say give money to everyone.
As a result of that the Democratic voters expect the govt to hand them stuff for free. The Republican voters don’t.
Democratic voters want to be spoon fed, Republican voters want to be left alone.
That may be why the Republican lie is closer to Libertartarian spirit, one less mouth to feed. Also why there is more chance of getting Republican votes.
Then they are not truly libertarians or anarchists. However, I have donated to Peter Schiff’s campaign and Ron Paul’s. I am donating to Peter Schiff’s campaign to hopefully spread the ideas of libertarianism. Ron Paul’s campaign is probably the largest awakening of people to the ideas of libertarianism in history.
