Hi, I’m having a discussion with a european technocrat, is there an Austrian critique of technocracy or did the Austrians deem it too silly to even bother writing about? It’s all built upon faulty premises and I can find plenty of things to critique myself, but as always, Rothbard, Mises, Reisman and so on always put it better than I do.
So, have you seen a critique of it?
Technocracy as in government or technocracy as in economic theory of a post scarcity world?
Rothbard briefly mentions it somewhere - possibly in MES. It is one of the dumbest ideas I’ve yet to hear and seems to ignore subjectivist economics and relies on a purely techonological rather than economic standard of efficiency, thereby opening itself up to massive resource misallocation. It makes some people feel better because it seems “scientific” and has the word “techno” in it, I suppose.

Sorry but I’ll take statistics, evidence and facts over principles and laws. Where historically have there been successes of stateless free market capitalism? How exactly would democratic control of society entail death, destruction and misery, (I think you forgot an apocalypse)?
Because without money prices you cannot economically calculate. That’s what did in the USSR and nearly did in the PRC. Notice how the PRC decided it was better to be half an ass and half a horse rather than to be a complete ass?
Yawn, here we go with this garbage again. Principles/laws are “facts”/“evidence”, and statistics are meaningless aggregations of data on their own. Making sense. Try it.
The problem with it so far, from a historian point of view, is that a scientific method cannot be applied to the social sciences.

EDIT: And more importantly, why are you looking for an Austrian critique of technocracy? As far as I know, the austrian school is an economic theory, and technocracy does not use an economy at all.
