Also note the complete lack of sympathy for something that helped wealthy people not to be murdered. And the courageous stand the bankers took to protect their clients. Why aren’t the banks considered righteous gentiles?
I just think it was funny the prince was talking smack like that.
this system of bank secrecy is what the united states has been leaning on the european and west indian countries for years to get rid of. of course, they promise they’ll never use it to grind you under their iron heel.

He can hardly be called a politician.
Prince Hans-Adam is not a politician. He’s a banker and a “good” one at that. He’s also incredibly popular among his people (think respect for a good man, not Obama-like adoration). Like Prince Albert of Monaco he’s a good ruler, really concerned for his country well being.
Sadly Prince Hans-Adam has been fighting a losing rearward battle all these years, being pressured by a crowd of drug addicts desperately craving for their fix. This crowd is made up of the largest democracies in the world salivating over God only knows which riches being hidden from them by the evil Alpine capitalists, riches that will probably solve all of their problem at once. In the meantime the children in our school are being indoctrinated by the fiscal police (and I am not making this up, it happened near to me… when I read it in the newspaper it literally ruined my day) that paying taxes is good and trying to hide wealth from the good State is bad, mostly because sick elders and starving children will be denied food and medicine. Hey, the State would like to help everyone but it doesn’t have the money because a few “rich” rotten apples are hiding their wealth instead of freely sharing it with everyone else. Please report them to the proper authorities. How stupid, pathetic and dangerous.
Bank secrecy is over, it’s only a matter of time before the “tax havens” will bow down to democracy completely. Our “dear leaders” really think that a few billions will save their day but, like is usual with politicians who only reason in terms of the next election. And the masses of brain washed drones will cheer wildly. No wait, brain washing requires a functioning brain to start with.
This conflict has a history.
German treasury secretary Steinbrueck threatened in 2008 to use “the whip” against the Swiss should they continue to support what he perceived as tax evasion. In 2009, he compared them to Indians against which one could use “the cavalry”, just in case.
This angered some over in Switzerland, and so Swiss MP Mueller said: “Steinbrueck defines the image of the ugly German quite anew. He reminds me of that generation of Germans which, 60 years ago, marched through the streets with leather coats, jackboots and armbands.”
Sad thing is, it’s true. His behavior does reflect a disturbing mentality. I hope Prince Hans kicks some more ass in the future.
It’s more than that. I don’t think that even socialist democrats count on this money to solve financial problems. The states claim sovereignity over all their citizens and they want to squash any signs of independence or rebellion.
If I were to ever live in Europe, I think Liechtenstein would be an alright place, all things considered.
That, or Monaco because I’m a degenerate gambler and they got a great casino @ Monte Carlo. Or so I hear.
Citizens of Monaco don’t pay income taxes.
However, with the exception of Switzerrland, these are all small countries. They won’t be able to resist economic pressure for long, not to mention military invasions.
Switzerland has a pretty good track record of resisting invasions.
Besides, for every politician who wants to crack down on tax evaders, there is a billionaire tax evader who contributes heavily to political causes.
I think tax havens will be around for a while.
