Best Regulations to Remove or Change?

I have been thinking about this topic quite a bit lately. The problem in a lot of countries today is that it is politically unfeasible to bring on the many reforms required to boost their economy. So if you could do away or change just a few regulations, what would they be?

I think I would start off with a better enforcement of property rights (Hernando de Soto) and reducing and/or eliminating the paperwork/licensing/etc. needed to start and close a business.

Eliminate minimum wage laws of all sorts, including Davis-Bacon and anything like it anywhere.

Legal tender laws and capital gains taxes.

I agree with your above points. I would also add either a free market currency system or, at least, one that is valued based upon a precious metal.

Oooh, good one.

All discrimination laws.

  1. Legal tender

  2. Minimum Wage

  3. Anti-trust

I think that the repealing of legal tender laws would be at the top of my list. The lack of legal tender regulation would make it very difficult for the government to control economic activity at all, and would even make the collection of taxes frustrating. It could weaken the government to a point at which individual secession would be a realistic possibility.
