i was eating clementines coupla minutes ago and was thinking about my racist italian friend. now hes part arab. i bet if we did a genetic analysis we would find that he has african genes. so the “blood theory” that racists often tout is basicly BS. so what if hitler was part jewish, at least he didnt act like some borough park miser who wears a fur hat in the summer. i am right, or what?
i think racism is basicly a subspecie of classism. whats the difference between hating on mallgoths and puerto ricans who barbecue on a beach? racism is stupid, but it is often considered a “serious evil”. it doesnt have to be that way. we dont have to base a political agenda on hating some social subgroup. racism was used for serious evil- imperialism and mass murder, but it is not a more serious vice than being a jerk.
Completely agree. I’m very sexist in the sense that I’m only sexually attracted to women. How come that isn’t bad?
I’m not racist, and I don’t advocate racism, but it really is nothing more than being a jerk by classifying people. I guess people just associate it with imperialism. It’s sad to say, but a lot of the “great society” projects and the like that brought in more government interference to help people in “black” communities just ended up hurting those people. The government plan to “get rid of racism” only made one race worse off.
While I’ve come to see that every form of discrimination, if extended enough, must be useful to the community.
Allow me to illustrate what I mean: if an employer sees in his own experience that, generally speaking, 60% of employees form some given background (let’s call them “blue people”) tend to quit the job when a period of stress comes about, and he has to choose between two candidates for a job, a blue guy, and a purple guy he might: 1) organize tests, than interviews, than personal interviews, and at the end he would have an error-ridden idea of who might be most appropriate for the job. Note that he also expend resources (mostly the time of his staff and of himself) is this fashion.
Or he could 2) “discriminate”, knowing that generally speaking blues are less reliable, and opt for the purple guy. If he stick to this rule in deciding a large number of cases, and the reliability of blues changes little as time goes bye, than he’ll be right more often than wrong in his decision.
Thus, discrimination serves a purpose of streamlining efficiency. Only when blues starts to change their reliability track record, and after some time has elapsed, does this rule begin to be inefficient. I myself has seen discrimination change a lot in a short time (my own Albanians switched form being regarded as thiefs and criminals in Greece to being regarded as hard-working people in under 10 years). So, advise being more careful when attacking social phenomena that have sprung up themselves. We might not know better than an entire society.
Hmm. I don’t see any reason to hate mall goths, but my guess would be that mall goths have made a choice. Whereas people from Puerto Rico did not.
Hating people for choices they did not make is about tantamount to hating mentally retarded people for not being PhDs. Or plants for being green. And so on.
