Ok, there is a dual point to this thread; first off, I’d like to see any/all evidence (if any exists) on whether or not CFCs really damage the ozone layer (to the extent that we can influence it), and, if it does, how much woudl be required to create a significant impact.
Second part, if it does cause harm to the ozone, would CFCs be allowed, at all, or would a certain amount be allowed (ie: if you use 10 cans of AC coolant, it causes no damage, but on the 11th on, you’re damaging your neighbor’s proeprty). I know this is also compounded by the fact that where teh hole is, well, no one gives a crap about property rights, as the land is basically useless.
i dont know that the ozone hole can be owned…or even existed as a result of cfcs in the atmosphere.
i guess if it could be shown that teh ozone hole expanding was causing harm and that even if cfcs were causing it i expect it wouldnt be long before panicked consumers scrambled to find an alternative to cfc usage becasue of the danger to their lives.

if shown that cfc would cause widspred starvation due to no more refrigerators…well a choce would have to be made. ozone death or starving until more dehaydreated foods could be brought to market.
The extreme example of the sun and the earth is a good may draw some parallels. Obviously no one can own the sun. No one can “legally” block the sun. We are all allowed an easement towards the sun, since we need it to survive. If someone builds a giant contraption to block the sun, that is a violation of that easement.
Now take this example to CFC’s. If CFC’s are indeed harmful or block an easement to xyz, then they are not allowed. Otherwise, there is no problem with CFC’s.
and that’s what I’m trying to find out…and that information is increasingly hard to come by; the debate continued on in the early 90’s, but by the late 90’s and early 00’s, it was in the “not contestable” category. That said, if you guys have any info, it’s much appreciated.

it seems you are applyig some type of mystical quality to cfcs that never occurred or can occur.
cfcs i thougght lessened atmospheric ozone creating less of an easment so to speak and and increase of various types of dangeroyus solar energy. not fairy land cfcs creating easemtns of the universe
IMHO, the argument still holds, given that we have an easement on UV blockage by the ozone layer. If CFC’s block or hinder that process from occurring, then it is in violation of the easement.
