Its amazing how the majority of people here in NYC think the government provides best for the poor- when this new act shows how they’re the ones responsible for making them homeless.
The government is trying to monopolize charitable activities. If we want to be charitable, we will need to follow VP-elect Biden’s example and suggestion and pay more taxes. Thanks for pointing out this article. What a horrible act by the government!
Wow. Took a glance at this article (I read the reader comments more carefully) and I’m not even sure I followed the “logic” in this action by the city.
Did they tell the churches to close their shelters because they were open only 3 nights a week, rather than the required 5 nights? And what right does the government have telling a private charity how to run their program? Is it because the churches are in some ways tax-exempt and therefore bound by city oversight and regulation?
Horrible thing to do the homeless, especially at this time of year. I get disgusted every time I hear about another one of Michael Bloomberg’s government/mayoral actions and proposals. Apparently the New Yorkers responding to the article feel the same way.
