I bought Common Sense Economics a couple weeks ago, and I stopped halfway through (page 127 exactly) about 3-4 weeks back. I actually found it to be dry and felt like it would confuse someone who’s reading it as an introduction to economics. (If I remember correctly I believe I had a problem with Hahn on profits). After reading about it I figured it would have been better than I thought. I’ve moved on to other books. Anyone else read it yet?
The benefit of Hahn’s book is that it is possible the most mainstream book on economics sold by the LvMI, and it covers most of the introductory chapters. While the text certainly doesn’t read like anything by Rothbard, I didn’t find it as dry as you make it out to be. Hahn was not an Austrian in the same ilk as Mises or Hayek, but he certainly sympathized with the Austrians in many ways.
It’s probably the writing style.
