I’d somewhat agree with Giles if it can be proven that videos are the only medium this person’ criticism is presented in, as different mediums require different skills & abilities to be able to compete with.
This is why I’ve been considering aside from simply reading more on theory within assorted subjects and"-isms" on this forum, that I would start trying to branch out myself, otherwise, my arguments & knowledge base would get stale.
For instance, it’s much too easy to debate with newbies on a forum, it’s far harder to debate with others on other forums that do not agree with you on the outset, & are not newbies.
It’s much easier to make videos of one’s self pontificating & lecturing to a would-be audience, if one has friended other like minded individuals on youtube; it is much harder to do the opposite.
This is why while I do not advertise my own Facebook (yes, I have one) here, I do post up several of my own little journal entries & links to different views regarding the news, as much of my facebook friends are not only offline friends, but more importantly, are people who do not implciitly agree with me.
In many cases, they are by the book socialist democrats, and sadly, only one or two friends have seemed to pay attention & contribute to commenting.
It’s much harder to advertise & engage with an audience beyond the peanut gallery of other like-minded individuals, & beyond “preaching to the choir” of those that agree with you. This is why while many agree here Socialism from the outset is wrong, even more could agree, regardless of agreeing with socialism or not, that Socialism itself has become indefinitely stale in it’s argumentation & development of theory.
Interestingly, I could almost argue the direct opposite with libertarianism, where there is constant competition in developing , furthering, & explaining libertarianism, to the point of unintentional and intentional with-hunts, theoretical perfectionism, and so forth. But this is a different matter, & I risk rambling further off-topic for mentioning it, lol…
One can stick with a certain medium, if it plays to one’s strengths, but I see no evidence of this person going beyond his own audience, which makes his position, and anyone else’s, regardless of what their political ideaology is, and regardless if I agree with them or not, implicitly weak, imo.
Personal disposition aside, if this individual really wanted to challenge others, and more importantly, himself, he would branch out towards the general audience of society, not simply the collectives that agree with him.
There is a reason why fighting The State, & society in general, is so difficult to begin with: from the moment the individual is born into this world, we are born, to some extent, into a massive echo chamber. Fighting the echo chamber with more echos is only going to increase the noise, and lessen overall comprehension.
This is all of course my opinion; I could care less what this individual does in his spare time, and how he spends it. But Rothbard & the other greats (which should include those of other ideologies that were at least honest in the way their debated & argued) did not get where they got by simply making videos of self-lectures.
They worked hard at their own argumentation, they even attempted to go into politics (Rothbard twice, once allying with the left, the other with the right), they wrote on other subjects beside libertarianism (Rothbard was an apt historian regarding the great depression, and I could probably get previous history professors I’ve had to agree with such, if they were exposed to his writings), they probably did not sever ties to people who did not agree with them & were even friends with them.
Personally, I’d love for this person to be invited here to join in on the conversation, to test his arguments, but more importantly to ascertain what his views are regarding how some of us view his tactics & argumentation.
Sure, many would highly disagree on the basis of him possibly reverting to a troll, but you cannot possible hope to spread change, socially or intellectually, without taking risks.
