Disestablishment of bank client confidentiality: another piece of freedom gone?

Since the “global recession,” the (Swiss) bank client confidentially (popularly also called bank secrecy) is again under attack (last year by the US, right now by Germany) as the root cause of tax evasion. My take (in particular to the recent comments by the German Finance Minister) can be read here [1]. What is your take on the topic?

Well, it seems that for the first time since 1812 is actually becoming a liability, not an asset, to European states. What a proud tradition of freedom the Swiss had. Here goes the last real-world example of a stable pseudo-minarchist country…

I believe that ,contrary to popular opinion, Swiss bank secrecy is still intact .

Here is a link to a blog I wrote a year ago concerning the UBS affair and Swiss bank secrecy in general.
