My objection to drugs begins and ends at destruction. By absolutely no means should anybody be jailed for using or selling drugs, but those that use them destructively should certainly be reasoned out of taking them.
The majority of recreational drugs can be used in a responsible, healthy manner. Yes, even crack, heroin, and methamphetamine. Would I reccomend trying them? That’s a personal thing and the vast majority of individuals simply CAN’T use crack/heroin/meth safely.
Could you please list the detrimental effects (both physical and mental) from responsible use? I’d like some scientific studies.
Edit: If there is any substance that should never be abused, it is inhalants. Never, ever try them and if you know ANYONE abusing inhalants you must intervene as quickly as possible. No other substance can make a healthy individual brain dead in under a year.
So you don’t drink any coffee, tea, pop, Red Bull, Monster, etc.?
Despite a healthy, vegetarian diet, and exercise, I drink tons of Coke. I think this is way worse than whatever alcohol and drugs I could consume.
“Who here (who is against making drugs illegal) thinks non-medical drugs are immoral or ‘bad’? And why?” - Nielsio
You’ll never get a rational answer to this question, and those who answer will usually be on their fifth cup of coffee, third beer, or halfway through a pack of cigarettes while explaining to you while all those other drugs are bad.

HAHA, so true… I kind of do it myself, but I don’t see the other drugs as “bad,” as much as they are a waste of time.
To each his own desires
, but I had same sort of objection to trying a psychadelic because I heard it could “change the way you think forever”. But its really not that scary, it’ll only give you temporary ego loss which is a benefit because you’re finally able to look at things without some sort of judgement or label.
Its really really hard to describe a psychadelic experience, most of it is very personal. When people say it gives you new perspectives and changes your mental state it doesn’t mean you’re gonna lose everything you know or feel is important. It just gives you new perspectives on every single subject matter you know of- its up to you to choose what to believe in. For me they were able to put my priorities in perspective and changed my relationships with people I know for the better. It kinda gives you a sense of gaining new knowledge during the trip that you could not have known before. Lol I don’t think its possible to describe this enough for anyone who never tried it to really understand what it does at all.
Again, let’s go back to what I’ve been saying. Psychedelic drugs (e.g. shrooms, LSD, mescaline, etc.) are drugs that help you approach problems from a different perspective. Psychedelic drugs are productive drugs. But even some non-psychedelic drugs can be productive. For example, caffeine, amphetamines, and other stimulants can help you get up and ready for work. Many stimulants also help you focus on whatever you’re doing. Then there are also steroids, which can be extremely helpful for certain populations (e.g. people with muscle-wasting problems, older athletes with low hormone levels).
I guess you could say that I’m a proponent of “better living through chemistry.”
This has been the experience for me as well.
When you’re on psychedelics, you’ll gain a new perspective on everything happening in your life. You’ll gain insights on your relationships with parents, friends, and lovers; you’ll begin to understand the consequences of your actions and how you have an effect on the lives of others. You’ll also think about various subjects with a much more open mind. You can really learn new things from psychedelic trips.

I cant speak for most people…but I dont smoke, drink exclusively for the taste(I sincerely dislike the effect of alchocal), and rarely drink caffinated beverages…
Yes, you have said that already… thrice. And that is good for you. How you choose to search reality is entirely up to you. But please give up the ego trip that “drugs = bad, I don’t do drugs, therefore I am good.” That’s a logical stance easily invalidated, and rests on a false premise.

That sounds nice, but it also doesnt sound like something that I have any particular interest in…But if you want to more power to ya…I’m certainly not going to stop you.

I never said drugs were bad…I said I dont get their appeal. That doesnt make them ‘bad,’ certainly not in any objective sense.
I also never said ‘I’m good because I dont do drugs.’ I only said that drugs have no interest me…and I never once claimed any sort of superority to people who disagree.
It’s good that you don’t want to force people not to do drugs. But if you really don’t care what other people’s choices on the matter are, why do you keep repeating your negative stance on them over and over again? We know what you think. I agree in major part. No need to keep saying it.
I like stating my opinions on subjects. I suppose you are correct taht I’v been saying it too much…lol.
I think I’ll just be leaving this thread now…
I found a quote relevant to our discussion. This is From Dr. Kerry Mullis, Nobel Prize winner and discoverer of Polymer Chain Reactions. He said that LSD helped him develop this theory and that "“Back in the 1960s and early '70s I took plenty of LSD. A lot of people were doing that in Berkeley back then. And I found it to be a mind-opening experience. It was certainly much more important than any courses I ever took.”
‘Good’ and ‘bad’ in this case are largely subjective. In any case drugs of the kind we’re discussing are not necessarily immoral and never will be. Drugs do not coerce or force themselves upon people. Drugs do not make a conscious choice to violate another’s natural rights. It is thus impossible for drugs in this context to be considered immoral.
What is immoral, however, is dictating what another can put into their own body where it does not directly affect another individual or their natural rights. Whether these drugs are for medicinal purposes or not is completely irrelevant. To dictate what someone else can do with their own body, so long as in doing so they are not violating another’s rights, is to mandate that people do not have ‘ownership’ of their own bodies which is completely absurd.
Does this mean I wish 8-year-olds were running around slapping at the inside of their elbow to find a vein? No, of course not. Most 8-year-olds aren’t very fond of needles.
